Legendary rock guitarist Steve Hackett is back with his new studio album, "The Circus And The Nightwhale." This concept album, featuring 12 tracks centered around a young character named Travla, offers an autobiographical glimpse into Hackett's life. Reflecting on his 30th solo release, Steve says, "I love this album. It says the things I've wanted to say for a long time."
Recorded between tours in 2022 and 2023 at Siren Studio in the UK, the album boasts contributions from artists in Sweden, Austria, the USA, Azerbaijan, and Denmark. The lineup includes familiar faces alongside Steve on electric and acoustic guitars, 12-string, mandolin, harmonica, percussion, bass, and vocals. Joining him are Roger King (keyboards, programming, and orchestral arrangements), Rob Townsend (sax), Jonas Reingold (bass), Nad Sylvan (vocals), Craig Blundell (drums), and Amanda Lehmann (vocals). Special guests Nick D'Virgilio and Hugo Degenhardt return on drums, with Benedict Fenner on keyboards and Malik Mansurov on tar. Steve's brother, John Hackett, also makes a return on flute.
Steve describes "The Circus And The Nightwhale" as "a delightful journey that starts dirty, scratchy, and smoky, and transitions into the heavenly and divine. How can you resist?"
The album will be available in various formats: Ltd CD+Blu-ray Mediabook (including 5.1 surround sound & hi-res stereo mixes), Standard CD Jewelcase, Gatefold 180g LP + LP booklet, and as a digital album.
Set to release on February 16, 2024, "The Circus and the Nightwhale" features tracks like "Taking You Down," "Enter the Ring," "Ghost Moon and Living Love," "Breakout," and more. This edition comes as a 1xCD+1xBlu-ray in a Mediabook package.
